Julian Lancia represents the next generation of rising polo talent, bringing a global perspective to the Singapore team. Born and raised in Ethiopia to teacher parents, he later moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he discovered polo at age 12 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting out as a groom in exchange for lessons from his late coach Peter Abisheganaden, Julian’s dedication and natural ability accelerated his progression. He rose from -1 to 1 goal within a single season the fastest ascent in the history of the Kuala Lumpur Polo Club (KLPC).
His early break came playing for La Sarita alongside Ameer Jumabhoy, where they achieved strong showings at the 2- and 4-goal levels. Julian’s performance led to invitations abroad, including two seasons of 6-goal polo at Thai Polo in Thailand, followed by 6- and 10-goal tournaments in Australia.
A recent high school graduate, Julian is set to begin university studies in Equine Management at the University of Guelph in Canada, perfectly aligning his academic journey with his passion for horses and the sport of polo.
