Behind the Lens

Every weekend during the season, thousands gather at the Newport International Polo Grounds for an unforgettable experience, thrilling matches, stylish tailgates, and moments shared with friends and family. While the spotlight often shines on the players and the fans, there’s another team working just as hard to capture the magic: our Newport Polo photographers.

Before most guests even arrive, they’re already on site scouting angles, setting up equipment. During the match, they’re everywhere at once: racing along the sidelines to catch the perfect mid-air goal shot, ducking between tailgates to capture candid moments, and weaving through the crowd to spotlight the incredible energy and elegance that define a Newport Polo Saturday.

Their dedication doesn’t stop when the match ends. While most of us head home, they begin the next part of their work: editing, sorting, and organizing hundreds of images to be shared with the enthusiastic Newport Polo community. Their photos are more than content,  they’re treasured keepsakes, visual stories that preserve each match for our guests, players, and global followers.

They help us relive the thrill of a match-winning goal, remember the joy of a birthday toast or a themed tailgate party, and see ourselves as part of something bigger, a tradition, a lifestyle, a summer ritual that brings people together.

These photographers are storytellers, artists, and integral members of our team. Their images fuel our website, social media, newsletters, and promotions,  but most importantly, they help create the memory of each matchday for you, our audience.

We are endlessly grateful for their talent, professionalism, and commitment. It’s time to meet the creatives behind the camera,  the ones who give us the gift of seeing our Saturdays through their eyes.

Scott Trauth is a seasoned Newport Polo veteran photographer and expert at capturing the most intense moments of action on the field for all to admire. Scott’s other passion to capture is everything nautical from competitive sailing to commercial fishing – Scott has an eye for action.

John Lincourt discovered photography when he was in college and over the years shot mostly landscapes and family events. When his three children started playing sports, John discovered he loved to capture the action of baseball games, soccer games and gymnastics and eventually began shooting many of the sailing regattas here in Newport.  In February of 2017, John & his wife Liz heard about an exhibition polo match on 1st beach. To say he & his wife were hooked is an understatement.  Since that cold Saturday in February John has captured the action every season, but not just the action on the field, he loves to shoot the behind the scenes action, the grooms prepping the mounts groups of fans getting into the theme of the week & even the sweaty hand slappy thing at the end of each match….

Boston native, Rod Harris combines his photojournalism background with his eye for landscapes and passion for sailing. The combination is a perfect storm of artistic expression in polo form.
