Horses Take to the Sky

The action will not be limited to BD Field this Saturday. As Team USA prepares to face Switzerland, the skies above Glen Farm will come alive with colorful kite demonstrations presented by Newport Kites.

A familiar sight along Ocean Drive, Newport Kites operates its flagship seasonal location at Brenton Point State Park—one of the East Coast’s most celebrated kite-flying destinations. Its experienced team has introduced generations of families to the joy of flying, with a hand-selected collection ranging from classic single-line kites to high-performance sport kites.

Guests are invited to keep their eyes on the sky as the Newport Kites team brings its passion and expertise to the polo grounds—including a special horse kite selected especially for the occasion. Weather and wind permitting, the demonstrations will add sweeping color, movement and a little extra equestrian magic to an already exciting afternoon.

Newport Kites is also the organizer of the beloved Newport Kite Festival, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2026. Since 1986, the festival has brought families and expert fliers together at Brenton Point for giant show kites, precision flying and a vibrant celebration of Newport’s coastal winds.

The demonstrations will be a fitting addition to this week’s Alpine Picnic festivities. Guests can pack a picnic, settle in along the sidelines and enjoy a playful spectacle overhead before turning their attention to the speed and excitement of international polo.

Team Switzerland returns to Newport for the first time since 2021 to challenge Team USA in the final international match of the season. With world-class polo on the field and a special horse soaring overhead, Saturday promises an unforgettable afternoon from every angle.
