Newport continued its winning momentum on Saturday, August 29, defeating Palm Beach 6–2 in the 15th installment of the celebrated resort rivalry. Presented by Turkish Airlines, the match brought two of America’s most iconic polo destinations together for another chapter of the Newport International Polo Series’ City Series.
Palm Beach took the field in Kinsella green with the support of Official Team Sponsor Kinsella Building Company. With local roots and a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, the Portsmouth-based company specializes in high-end custom homes, renovations, additions and historic restorations—from elegant coastal cottages to large-scale luxury residences. Alex Pond of Aston Martin Boston opened the match with the ceremonial coin toss before umpires Dan Keating and Chris Fragomeni called the teams to center field.
Newport wasted little time establishing control. Oscar Monzon opened the scoring in the first chukker and returned with another goal in the second, giving the home team an early 2–0 advantage.
Monzon continued his commanding performance in the third chukker, completing a first-half hat trick. Gus Reed followed with his first goal of the afternoon, extending Newport’s lead to 4–0 heading into halftime.
The break brought thousands of spectators onto BD Field for the traditional divot stomp and a special Visit Barbados cork hunt. Hidden among the divots was the key to a five-day, four-night escape for two to The House, Barbados, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort on the island’s celebrated West Coast.
When play resumed, Newport continued to apply pressure. Stuart Odell struck twice in the fourth chukker, building a commanding 6–0 advantage for the home team.
Palm Beach refused to concede. Caleb Bryden broke through Newport’s defense in the fifth chukker to put the visiting team on the scoreboard. He struck again in the sixth, but Newport’s early advantage proved insurmountable. The final horn sounded with the home team securing a decisive 6–2 victory.
The afternoon’s Worth Avenue Whites theme brought the signature style of Palm Beach to Newport, transforming the grounds into a sea of crisp white attire and resort-ready elegance. Guests arrived dressed in everything from flowing summer dresses and classic linen to polished tennis whites, while tailgates embraced the theme with white-on-white tablescapes, fresh florals and coastal-inspired décor. Throughout the match, judges made their way around the field in search of the most stylish celebration for the Stella Artois Best in Show competition, adding a fashionable off-field rivalry to the afternoon’s action.
At halftime, paradise was literally underfoot as guests took to BD Field for the Barbados Divot Stomp Prize. Hidden among the divots was a special cork offering one lucky participant a five-day, four-night escape to The House, Barbados—an adults-only, all-inclusive Autograph Collection resort and five-star Marriott luxury property located on beautiful St. James Beach along Barbados’ celebrated West Coast. The search added an exciting tropical twist to one of polo’s most beloved halftime traditions, with thousands of spectators carefully scanning the field for their chance to trade Newport’s coastline for the turquoise waters of Barbados.
Aston Martin Boston brought an impressive automotive showcase to the grounds featuring the 2026 Aston Martin Vantage S, Aston Martin Vanquish Volante and Aston Martin DBX707. The afternoon included the highly anticipated reveal of the Lotus Emira 420 Sport.
Guests enjoyed shopping from Simply Chickie and Coastal Cute, along with selections from the Newport Polo Pro Shop. The West Lawn featured Ben & Jerry’s, Cluck Truck, Hometown Poke, JavaJai Coffee Co., La Costa Lobster & Tacos and Little Fish Tacos. At Dillon’s Patio Bar, the Pegasus served as the official Drink of the Match alongside Stella Artois, boutique wines and Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
Following the final horn, spectators gathered at center field for the Veuve Clicquot Trophy Presentation. Palm Beach influencer Suebelle Robbins presented the 2011 City Series Liberty Bowl to Team Newport before players and guests raised a celebratory champagne toast.
