After more than a decade away, Team Brazil has officially returned to Newport ahead of this weekend’s international match against Team USA. Their arrival marks more than the return of a world-class polo team. It celebrates the renewal of a friendship between Brazil and Newport Polo that spans generations. Bem-vindo, Team Brazil!
Upon arriving at Logan Airport, the delegation was welcomed by Rockstar Limo before making the scenic drive to Newport. A perfect afternoon of soft ocean breezes awaited, to be taken in from the lawn of iconic Castle Hill Inn, where lunch overlooking Narragansett Bay offered a chance to unwind before checking into Hammetts Hotel, their home for the week. Little did they know, Castle Hill was the summer home of international polo phenom, Rodolphe L. Agassiz, one of America’s first 10-goal polo players and former president of the local polo club!
That evening, clad in yellow and green, the Brazilian team gathered with local supporters at Midtown Oyster Bar to watch Brazil face Scotland in the FIFA World Cup. The watch party quickly became more than a match viewing. It was an opportunity for fans and players to connect over shared excitement for Brazilian sport and culture. The evening continued with a welcome dinner filled with conversation, laughter, and plenty of alegria, the joyful spirit Brazil is known for.
Thursday introduces the team to some of Newport’s most iconic landmarks. The day begins with a tour of The Breakers and a stroll on the famed Cliff Walk before lunch at Newport Vineyards. In the afternoon, the players head to Newport Polo for a Friendship Tournament with the club, giving both sides an opportunity to meet on the field before Saturday’s international match. It is a celebration of amizade—friendship through sport.
Friday continues with a visit to Marble House and lunch overlooking the grass courts before the team trades mallets for tennis racquets during a friendly afternoon at the legendary International Tennis Hall of Fame, just weeks before Roger Federer is inducted. After the volleys are finished, Newport Jaguar Tours will whirl the entourage away on a guided historical tour of the City by the Sea. Friday will culminate in an exclusive rooftop cocktail reception, followed by dinner at Clarke Cooke House overlooking Newport Harbor, where players, sponsors, and guests will gather to celebrate the international spirit of the weekend.
By Saturday, anticipation gives way to competition as Team Brazil takes the field against Team USA. The grounds come alive with the vibrant colors and energy of the day’s Carnaval theme, inviting guests to embrace Brazilian culture through music, festive attire, and the signature drink of the match, the Carnaval Caipirinha. While the action unfolds on the field, the atmosphere reflects the warmth and hospitality that define both Newport and Brazil.
Following the final chukker, players and guests will gather at 7:30 for the Après Polo Players Party, raising a glass of saúde! to an unforgettable day of international competition, new friendships, and shared traditions.
On Sunday, Rockstar Limo will once again transport Team Brazil as they continue their journey. Although their visit comes to an end, the memories—and the friendships formed throughout the week—will travel with them. Rather than saying goodbye, Newport Polo simply says até logo.
Team Brazil’s return represents far more than a single match. It celebrates the international relationships that have long defined Newport Polo and highlights the power of sport to bring cultures together. Eleven years may have passed since Brazil last competed in Newport, but this week has proven that great friendships never fade—they simply pick up where they left off.
Obrigado, Team Brazil. We are honored to welcome you back to Newport.
