Providence Glowed and the Polo Grounds Roared: A Weekend with the Italian Team

This past weekend felt less like a polo fixture and more like a cinematic escape—a “Roman Holiday” reimagined in Rhode Island. From the sparkling skyline of Providence to the galloping pageantry on the Newport grounds, the Italian Polo Team brought with them not only formidable talent, but undeniable flair.

Friday night’s WaterFire lighting ceremony and rooftop celebration at Bellini Club in the capital set the tone—a glittering tribute to international camaraderie, elegance, and the enduring partnerships that make moments like these possible. Loyal patrons and special guests including Jeffrey Osborne, Miss Rhode Island and Miss Teen RI mingled under twilight skies with our corporate patrons from RI Commerce Corp, Vanderbilt International Properties, Herb Chambers Exotics, PBN and Grieco Automotive raising glasses to friendship, community, and the thrill of the match to come.

By Saturday, the scene shifted to the historic grounds of Newport Polo, where the Italian team faced Team USA in front of a sold-out crowd. The stakes were high and the atmosphere electric, as cheers in English and Italian rang out over the field. Off the pitch, it was a showcase of style and spirit—with our sponsors front and center, hosting guests and adding their signature flourish to the day including Turkish Airlines, BD, TD Bank, BD, Foxwoods, Vanderbilt International Properties, Dillon’s, Grieco Automotive and A1 Roofing.
