Current weather conditions at the Polo Venue in Portsmouth: Click Here for Weather Forecast
Matches have rarely been cancelled; teams are likely to play through most summer conditions, but we will not subject horses or players to hazardous conditions. Please be sure to come prepared with appropriate protection for all weather conditions, from sunscreen and sunbrellas or tents to layers to insulate from wind or precipitation. If necessary, seek shelter in your vehicles. Sheltered seating is by reservation and typically sold out by Gameday.
Our 24-hour Info Line provides up to-the-minute status of the impending match: 401-846-0200 x2. Check it often in inclement weather. Our website will also feature a banner alert, announcing any status change to the scheduled match.
It is Newport Polo’s intention to hold the match on the appointed date if at all possible. The match will stay on schedule until such time as game conditions are deemed prohibitive to safely start the match. In order to conduct the match, it may include having a Rain Delay, i.e. delaying the start time on the same day, or Postponement to the Rain Date, due to weather-related unsuitable game conditions prior to the start of the match. The Rain Date for Saturday matches is always the following day, Sunday, at the originally scheduled time. Unsuitable field conditions are typically the cumulative result of multiple factors, therefore difficult to predict precisely when they might affect a change to the match schedule; it could occur prior to or after the start of the match.
In the occurrence of a match postponement to the Rain Date, all original polo match tickets will be applied to the Rain Date. If the Rain Date must be canceled at any point, prior to or after its start, due to weather-related unsuitable game conditions, the match will not be rescheduled. NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES WILL BE MADE EXCEPT WITH THE PURCHASE OF OPTIONAL TICKET INSURANCE, which is offered on the checkout page when you purchase tickets. Acceptance of our Terms & Conditions is also required at the time of checkout, to proceed with any ticket purchase.
Because rain outs have been rare in our 30 year history, our ticket prices are kept at a minimum rate, and not padded with ticket insurance, in fairness to all customers. Customer may elect to avoid the risk of losing their ticket purchase in the case of postponement or cancellation, by adding ticket insurance to their ticket purchase online.

We are not likely to have advanced notice of a match cancellation due to weather-related field conditions sooner than the start of the match, 5pm / 4pm in September because it is our intention to have the match at the original time and date if at all possible. Match officials will assess actual conditions before making a determination; a schedule change based on a weather forecast is unlikely.
